The British discovered Shimla in 1819 right after the Gurkha War. Before its discovery, Shimla was known as the temple of Hindu Goddess Shamala Devi. The first british summer home of the city was built in 1822 by Charles Partt Kennedy. Shimla was also known as the eye of Lord William Bentinck who was the Governor General of India from 1828 to 1835. However, in the late 19th century Shimla had become the summer capital of British Rule. Every year British Soldiers, merchants, and civil servants moved to Shimla to cut the heat of the other places of India.
Manali is one of the beautiful hill stations of India, which is situated in the Himalayan Mountains of Himachal Pradesh just next to the northern end of Kullu Valley. In the ancient times, the Manali was meagerly populated by the nomadic hunters as Rakshas. The next arrivals were the Shepherds who came from the Kangra valley and settled to do agriculture. Then came the British and introduced apples and trout by establishing apple and trout farming.
